PEE KOELEWIJN, DUTCH CHRISTIAN ZIONIST LEADER DIES AT THE AGE OF 62
Pee Koelewijn, Dutch Christian Zionist leader and ardent friend of Israel, passed away on Tuesday, 10 September at the age of 62, leaving behind his wife Corrie and four children. He was the soul and the driving force behind the Dutch organization called "Christenen voor Israel," that had been established 22 years ago. He led the organization's operations since 1989.
Koelewijn was Editor-in-Chief of a monthly publication (75,000 subscribers) devoted to supporting Israel. As Project Manager of Christenen voor Israel he initiated dozens of projects throughout Israel. Pee Koelewijn was deeply involved in the work of The Jerusalem Foundation, through his ties with Mayor Teddy Kollek and, later, with Mayor Ehud Olmert. Under the inspiration of Pee Koelewijn, his organization became involved during the last years in helping Ukrainian Jews reach points of destination to Israel ("Exobus").
Pee Koelewijn was very active in initiating, five years ago, the operation "Tulips for Israel," in which he, and the members of his organization raised funds to purchase 100,000 tulip bulbs and distributed them every year, in the month of November, all over Israel. Pee Koelewijn was the man behind many pro-Israel demonstrations, and, as a TV journalist, traveled often to Israel to produce programs that dealt with Israel. Typical for a man of such strong convictions, Pee Koelewijn was a member of the board of the Orthodox cheider in Amsterdam.
Pee Koelewijn was in close contact with the Dutch office of Keren Hayesod and was instrumental in supporting Jewish Agency projects through Keren Hayesod.
